Our ‘Moms and Mentors‘ Program connects single mothers with volunteer mentors from the community, for a year of friendship and support.
Moms and mentors spend about two hours per week together. They may meet at the playground or at a café, or do just about anything that’s fun or useful – they could be going for a walk, shopping for groceries, cooking together, or just chatting over coffee or tea. There are monthly group gatherings to meet other matched pairs. Mentors act as an open ear and emotional support for the Mom they are matched with.
We always have room for more participants (both Moms and Mentors) in our program.
Birthday Program: 1UP is happy to support our members with gifts for their children’s birthdays. Members can email firstname.lastname@example.org 2 to 3 weeks before their child’s birthday to request a birthday gift. In your email please include your child’s name, gender, age and interests, and 1UP staff will do their best to find a couple options for you to choose from.
School Supplies: In early July, members are invited via email to sign-up for a set of basic school supplies for their children in K-12. School supplies are available on a first-come first-served basis, and pick -up is usually sometime during the last two weeks of August.
Holiday Support: Every year, 1Up has a raffle to draw approximately 60 member families who will receive winter holiday hampers. These hampers include gifts, treats and food vouchers to help you celebrate the holidays with your family. Member are invited to enter the Holiday Hamper Raffle starting early September, and if your name is drawn, you will be matched with a local Donor that will put together a personalized hamper for your family. *Please note that priority is given to members who did not receive a hamper the previous year, and first time recipients.
Help us provide hope
We love what we do, but we can’t do it alone. 1Up is dependant on volunteer and donor support.
