Sarah Downey

Sarah Downey

Executive Director

Sarah has a twenty-year history of developing, supporting, advising and managing – charities, non-profit societies and co-operative organizations. Sarah holds a BA Honours Degree in Indigenous Studies and Fine Arts and has an extensive background in social work, business, and finance.

Sarah brings a wide range of skills that are an ideal fit for the vision at 1Up. Some of her key interests are bringing more awareness and support to the instrumental role that 1Up plays in the Greater Victoria community, and working to understand and truly meet the needs of members. She comes to us most recently as the Executive Director of Power of Hope Society, a charity that supports the empowerment and emotional well-being of youth who struggle with difficult life situations.

As a single parent herself (of two teenagers) Sarah has a depth of understanding for the kinds of issues – financially, socially, and emotionally — that are faced daily by single parents in Victoria.
